(Jamaica)
Kingston’s rubbish( garbage) dump Riverton City burned for days recently causing smoke problems in the surrounding areas and prompting renewed concerns about it’s affect on people and the enviroment.
The smoke could be seen and felt for miles around. It is not a new problem, here is an excerpt from the archives of a report on the city garbage dump from 1989.
Added to those concerns that are longstanding, news reports brought to general attention the fact that livestock is being raised on the site and the meat is being sold. The Observer Newspaper editorial at the begining of March 2012, gives voice to the concerns about public health and food safety.
